The energy is produced simply by holding the handle of the flashlight which then produces a steady beam of LED light. She has since begun work on a head lamp version to help minors which would enable them to have a renewable light source while working deep underground.
This is just one example of what can happen when self discovery and student exploration is embraced rather than forced curriculum and over testing. Ann is now working with GE and Google to help produce her inventions and even work towards other revolutionary devices using thermoelectricity.
