In response to this potentially divisive statement 17-year-old Hajrad Arshad, a Muslim youth group leader organized a "peace ring" around the Jewish Synagogue in Oslo, Norway. His idea was to display brotherhood and solidarity from the Islamic community to the Jewish; as well as prove that there was no need for Jews to flee Europe in fear.
When he first heard of the idea, Ervin Kohn, a leader is Oslo's Jewish community was concerned that if no one showed up, it would create even further evidence that the Jews were not wanted, thus he declared that for the event to be permitted, at least 30 Muslims must be present.
On Saturday night over 1,300 Muslims arrived and made a "peace ring" around the Synagogue declaring that there was more to Islam than media portrayals of violent extremism; and that they stand shoulder to shoulder with their Jewish brothers and sisters in the face of those who would resort to violence in order to spread their own perverted version of Islam.
