Based on recent studies, test subjects displayed classic withdrawal symptoms after stopping constant use of the drug indicating that the drug may in fact be addictive. Additionally, long term use may actually have damaging effects on the brain. The newly released studies claim that use of marijuana actually shrinks the orbitofrontal cortex... the region of the brain that accesses whether or not something is good or bad for us.
Four states in the United States have already fully legalized the drug (Washington, Oregon, Colorado, and Alaska) and others are on the way to doing so. Based on this new research should we reexamine our society's growing acceptance of marijuana usage?
