Nato Secretary-General Anders Rasmussen said that “After 42 years, Col Gaddafi’s rule of fear has finally come to an end. I call on all Libyans to put aside their differences and work together to build a brighter future.”
Some reports claim that Gaddafi was in fact killed by members of his own guard as enemy soldiers closed in on their position. However it happened, it appears that Gaddafi is indeed dead as pirated video footage was being spread around the internet of people dragging his body through the streets.
Gaddafi was driven from power in the Arab Spring movement earlier this year. He had vowed never to give in to the people he called “traitors,” however in March a joint NATO military effort led by the United States began bombing key targets in Libya, weakening Gaddafi’s forces enough so the Rebels could make their move to take
back their country.
