By this time in the lat 1960s now, Dr. Sandler, began to fight sexism with a bit more vigor and enthusiasm. Her work became the driving force for the creation of Title IX - the 1972 civil rights law that barred gender discrimination at educational institutions. In practice, this law required male and female students to have equal access to admissions, financial assistance, and opportunity to play sports.
Title IX has turned out to have a bit more reach than originally intended as it has been used in the recent past to cut or limit funds for institutions who have failed to take serious steps to prevent sexual misconduct on their campuses.
Throughout her life she was a champion of women's rights and for the rights of many marginalized people. Dr. Sandler was inducted into the National Women's Hall of Fame in 2013.
