Yesterday, Woonsocket High School was placed on lockdown after police received information indicating a student had brought a handgun to school. The school was on lockdown for a little over an hour.

This is rather ironic that the blog is about this, a girl from my Bruno soccer team is actually a student at Woonsocket high school, and she told my team all about the experience. She was actually in physical education at the time, and when the lock down was announced, the girls were ordered to report to the girls locker room, and the boys were ordered to report to the boys locker room. Little did the school know, the young man who was actually caring the gun, was in this gym class, therefore when all the boys had to report to the boys locker room, they were now trapped in a small area with this kid. Although there is only so much you can do to try and protect yourself while in this type of situation, you can protect yourself by treating everyone with respect everyday. What people do not realize is that many of these gun threats and other types of threats are results from bullying others. Always think before you say things.

The gun was in his trunk. He was not carrying it

Still not good to have an air soft gun on school property but you can see how the story gets blown out of proportion. Big difference between carrying the gun into the boys locker room and being locked in the car trunk

Bringing a airsoft gun to school is just a bad idea. Most of them a reallistic and I can see how someone could easly confuse it for a real gun. Even if its in your car someone walking by could see it. Also if they thought they knew the student that had brought a gun to school why would they not try to isolate him?

It's safe to say that no one thinks anymore! Was there really a valid explanation for this ridiculous idea? Did he want to show off his gun, to be ‘the man’? If so, who in their right mind would think of performing this action at school? Honestly, I’m surprised the school found out and was able to react to this event. Undoubtedly, there are a lot of terrible things that goes unpunished within the student body.

Seriously, has anyone learned? Just saying you have a gun is basically a crime. I really thought this student would have learned what happens when you say you have a gun. I mean look at what happened in Ohio and another place where the student threatened an attack at their school. I know an air soft gun isn't that bad, but it's still a gun and the boy threatened to take it to school. I hope this boy gets into a lot of trouble and learns not to kid about stuff like guns.

I myself own a airsoft gun and it is no dangerous whatsoever. The only way he would or actually should have gotten in trouble was if he had the gun actually on him in school and that the orange tip was missing from the top if the gun. The orange tip is there to show cops that it is not a real gun and that it does no harm. Sure maybe he shouldnt have brought it to school but look at it from his view, maybe he was going to go play right after school and threw it in his trunk and some other kid found a reason to get back at him for some reason. I find this really stupid and that there is no point for him to go to a hearing about the gun when in fact it wasnt real at all.

That is exactly what I was thinking.. like if he was bragging about it, telling people that he had a gun in his car just to sound cool, that's one thing. But what if he was going to play after school? I am honestly not sure where I stand with this.. :/

I see both sides of the story on this. No, he should not have had a 'gun' at school, and no, he should not have said he did have one, but on the other hand, it was an airsoft gun. I own one, and I've played, and they do hurt, but they are not life threatening, They basically shoot out hard plastic BB's that leave welts, or if you aren't wearing the right gear, can make you go blind. He should not have brought it just because there are other objects that can be shot out of it. Either way, he hsould not have brought it, but it also was not such a huge deal because it was an airsoft gun.

Wow, I know that was in his trunk, but how did he think that he was going to get away with that. It was loaded, and I don't know if he had it on safe. I know airsoft guns arn't leathle, but as Shae said, they can do some serious injories.

This was just a stupid thing to do. I so realize that this was an airsoft gun but you never know what people's intentoins are. He could have been bringing it if he was going to play after school with some frineds or whatever else. As Elisabeth said, it is stupid and it is scary.

Why are there more and more people bringing weapons to school? I feel as if people feel unsafe, or want to be cool is the reason. I think school safety should be much better to let this slip by!

This was just a dumb idea. If your not planning any harm why would you bring an airsoft gun to school. There is no explanation for this. This kid shouldnt have done something stupid such as having possesion of a weapon on school grounds. As Vence said, its just a good thing they caught him before he caused any harm.

I dont care if it was a real gun or an air soft gun, a gun is a gun and the kid should have know that nothing good would come of this. Kids bringing guns to school is becoming way to common and we to stop all this hate.

I do not understand why people have to deal with their problems with violence. It is very scary to think a kid at a high school had a gun and was in possession of it on school ground. Many people at this time are very scared and unaware of what will happen next. It would have been even more scary to be in the same room as the boy with the gun. So many people are in danger when this kid brings a dangerous weapon into the school. It was good that nobody got hurt and they were able to charge the student with possession of a dangerous weapon on school grounds.

Ok so clearly this kid did not think this over. He probably thought that because it's an airsoft gun that it changes the rules when it doesn't. Not to mention that everyone is on high alert after the recent shooting in another school. So this kid probably did not think anything of bringing it to school but whoever he told obviously had a problem with it.

That is stupid that this kid would do something so idiotic. First off no type of gun is allowed in school and second anyone with a brain knows that every little thing you do spreads around school at the speed of light. If you think about doing something stupid just think before you do.

Is it just me, or does it seem like there have been a lot more attempts at school shootings in the past 20 or so years. Before I was a student at Pilgrim, I actually was only afraid of a school shooting at the school more than anything else (of course then I used the guys bathroom and was proved otherwise...but still). I'm curious to how the psychological testing went with the other student who was caught in the previous school shooting went. I wonder if they have somethings in common...

In my opinion this was completely unnecessary. It was an airsoft gun in his car. Maybe he was going target practicing after school. Who knows? But i just think that arresting him sor that, that seems a little psycho if you ask me.

Well this is just preposterous. I think they were both wrong it really isn't bad to have an airsoft gun locked in your car. But it is also not something that should have been done. He should know that schools are strict he should have left it at home.

I understand why the school was on lock down but the gun was locked in his car so it's not like he had it in his backpack and planned on using it. While they were in lock down was the guy in lock down also with the other kids orrrr was he actually getting his gun....there is a difference. I hope they didn't send him to jail.

The kid should be blamed and face the consequnces, he knew what he was doing was wrong. If he didnt plan on using the gun why would he carry it around and leave it in the car. But then again they shouldnt have gone on lockdown, but you never know what the kids intentions or plans were to use that. People dont just carry around airsoft guns for no reason.

with things like this i think it shouldnt even really be news because there are enemies in highschool and this kid had a AIRSOFT gun in his CAR. He was not carrying it with him nor did he have a real gun in his car whcih could have both been situations. The kid isnt to bright for bringing any type of weapon on school grounds but with things like this there could have just been some ratting out to get back or a simple mistake of forgetting his toy was in the car.

After yet another school shooting recently happening, it's good to hear this school took things so seriously and is punishing the student. It would be tragic to hear of ANOTHER innocent school being put in such danger. It is scary to hear of this happening so close, but it is a good thing nothing serious was able to happen.

why in the world to people feel that in danger to go to the extremes to bring a gun to school, regardless of what type it is. There was no reason for the kid to have the gun in his car unless he was planning on doing something with it. he should at least get charged with possession of a loaded gun.

Bringing an airsoft gun to school is such a dumb idea.. It can easily be mistaken for an actual gun which could result in you getting in a lot of trouble. Thank god it was only an airsoft gun in this case and not an actual gun!

I don't know what is more ridiculous... that the presence of an airsoft gun somehow sparked a lock down and a frenzy, or that the student is being brought to court for possession of a "weapon" which can cause a sting at most. Don't get me wrong... airsoft guns hurt. But enough to earn a possession charge? not quite. Comments are closed.
