Hassan approached the man and the two ended up in a physical confrontation. When it appeared that he would not be able to get by Hassan, the attacker self-detonated 13 pounds of explosives killing himself and Hassan instantly. Though tragic, Hassan's actions may have saved the lives of as many as 1500 students according to Lal Baz Ali, principal of Ibrahimzai High School.
The militant group known as Lashkar-e-Jhangvi has claimed responsibility for the attack saying they were targeting Shiite Students.
Hassan's father was quoted as saying, "My son did a heroic job and I am proud of his bravery."
This should stand as a strong reminder that there are people in this world who care more for others than they do for themselves. And that though the news is often filled with stories of acts of terror, there are those who fight against these powerful forces.
