Each year following the speech political pundits launch their attacks or defense of the President and his main points, and because we live in a very divided partisan political world, there is very little objectivity on either side of the political spectrum... consider these basic reactions:
An Illinois resident proclaimed, "Listening to the State of the Union, I can't help but feel invigorated."
While a Houston native despaired, "In short, the speech was a waste of time and of breath."
Want to guess with which party each of these reactionaries is affiliated? And perhaps that is the point. Our political environment is so divisive that the content of what is said has become less important and instead the color of the person's tie is the determining factor.
So was the President's speech a success? What is the actual state of our Union? Are we going in the right direction? Will the President and Congress finally start working together as is their obligation to every citizen in this country?
