In an effort to save Samantha, zoo officials introduced her to Panda, a Dutch rabbit. The process was a slow one to ensure the two would get along, and the results have been remarkable and heart-warming. Samantha cares for her tiny new friend... she scratches her her chin, pets her, and also shares food with her.
Zoo officials say it is Samantha's unique personality which makes the pairing possible. She is gentle by nature and has never shown any real signs of aggression. Even when her mate Rudy was alive, Samantha was always comfortable around humans and was eager to show them affection.
Each year scientists are learning how much humans and primates have in common; and understanding creatures like Samantha can help us gain valuable insights into our own nature and psychological makeup.
