If you were to log-on to Expedia or Travelocity, you would be able to book a trip to the most exotic of destinations... China, Egypt, Papua New Guinea, and a host of others... but, the location that would not be available to you is one that "Space Agents" say will be the next big thing in the travel industry.
There are several travel companies which have opened during the past few years, all of them promising to provide space travel to regular citizens... well maybe not regular, the cost of these vacations range from about $95,000 to almost $2 million. The options for these private companies range from a brief half-hour flight above the atmosphere to week long excursions to the dark side of the moon. And just like when you fly to Disney World, the weary traveler must first go through the airport... or in this case the space-port... In fact, though the interstellar flights have not started from it, the fist space terminal is already built... Spaceport America sits in the New Mexican desert just waiting for passengers ready to explore the final frontier.

I'M SO EXCITED!!!!! I can't wait to go to space. I want to travel with Spaceport America and go through the space-port and feel like Zenon from that Disney Movie. Zoom zoom zoom, make my heart go boom boom boom... my supernova girl!! It's really expensive but I'd say worth the money! The safety of this type of service is questionable but I say lets make it happen! I'm pro-Spaceport America. I think I might hand in an application to work there... how cool would that be?

Wow! This would be amazing; citizens would finally be able to experience what astronauts experience! You never know, these outer space vacations may soon turn to Outer space living. Maybe one day, not too far away from today there will be the opinion to live in outer space. That seems like it is so far in the future but it really isn’t! Science is a rapidly growing field and many people do not give it the credit it deserves.

Even though this is awesome and sounds amazing i have no desire to actually do it. Money isn't the problem, i am just terrified of space. I wouldn't trust it and i feel like my stomach would be upside down the whole trip, like the way you feel on a roller coaster. It's really cool that they may make this opportunity available but it's just not for me! 9/12/2012 04:29:34 am
I think that this is SO cool! To think that this sort of thing is already happening in this day and age is really mind blowing. Yes, the travel fare is expensive right now, but if you think about the future, you can probably guess that as time goes on, the "air fare" will decrease. Technology is always advancing, and soon we will be able to get to space withought the use of costly fuel! It just makes me happy to think that regular citizens are able to go to the moon if they want to right now! Sure, only people like Bill Gates (not even...) could go on this trip, but having the option is still prretty cool. I would have to see the risks of going to space if I was given the option of going. I think it would be very cool to see space and see first-hand what we have all read about in books or what we have seen on television. Another step into the future for man!

This does not at all appeal to me. Space terrifies me. I have heard of space vacations but I thought they were just rumors. I do not understand why anyone would want to invest such a large amout of money on going into a never ending, oxygenless world were there is not even gravity. I would not hesitate in choosing a trip to a place like Hawaii over taking a rocket into space. I will leave that to the austronauts of the world.

WHATTATAT?! This is incredible! the closest feeling i have ever experieneced going to space was on the ride Space Mountain in Dinesy World! This would be so amazing to experienec what an astronuat experiences many times a year. Its is amaxing what the field of sciene is doing in this world. It is crazy to even believe some of the technologies we have now, but even further we might be abe to go to space as a vacation! words do not describe how excited i am.

I imagine that we view space travel the same way people once viewed airplanes. As exciting that it seems now, the fad will probably fade overtime, when it is accessible to everyone. A vacation in space is something that many people probably find invaluable, and im sure when it is ready, many will go.

I don't really see the point. This kind of trip is super expensive and when you are there on the moon there really isn't too much to do. Maybe jump really high and everything maybe play some space golf but then what are you going to do for the rest of the week. Also wouldn't you need atleast some sort of training before going into space? If not couldn't just anyone be an astronaut? I probably wouldn't waste my money on this I would probably get sick flying there and I don't think it's worth the 95,000 to two million dollars.

This is one of the most amazing things I have ever heard! It really shows how far our technology has come. It would be awesome to travel into space and get an astronaut experience while on vacation, but at the same time it is very expensive. I don't think too many people will be willing or be able to afford to pay up to 2 million dollars to take a trip into space. But if you're rich then hey, hey why not? I personally would be to scared even if I could afford it!

I think that it will be really cool when "Spaceport America" will offer trips that will bring people up to space. However, I would never want to go because space does not really intrest me, so it would be a huge waste of money for me. Also, though I think that I would be somewhat afraid to travel into space. So even though I would never do it, I do think that it will be awsome for other people.

The idea of this is out of this world! When "Spaceport America" opens i bet many people will be so interested in it. Although i feel as though it will not get that much business due to the fact that it cost so much money! If it were cheaper i would defiantly due something like that but probably the 30 min trip because i would be way to scared to stay a week in space! I'm excited to see how this industry does!

I believe that private space vacation companies could really take off. Many companies such as Space X could greatly reduce the cost of sending regular civilians in to space and very soon, to the moon. More money should go towards private companies like Space X. They already have the Stratolaunch team formed that will definitely reduce the cost. They will have a huge plane, nicknamed the Roc, carry a rocket to 30,000 feet where it will drop it while the rocket blasts into space. This reduces the cost because they do not need extra protection on the rocket to protect it from its own sound and pure energy bouncing off the ground as it takes off. This saves fuel because they don't have to use more power to lift more weight. The whole concept of dropping a rocket isn't new but it is much cheaper than lifting off from the ground. As long as they keep the Stratolaunch project in mind, the price will be more reasonable and more people will be able to go into space and orbiting earth. If they bring down the price in many ways, people from our school could possibly make a flight to space. It used to be a dream of us as kids to be an astronaut, and now that dream has come a little bit closer to coming true.

This sounds really cool maybe if you were rich. Rich people are the only people who can enjoy this so I do not really like the idea of it. I don't know if this will ever be a realistic vacation for people who aren't wealthy because to get into space costs a lot of money itself. The preparation of the spaceship and all the fuel it takes to get into space is a great amount of money. Maybe in the future we will create a new cheap and efficient way to get into space and there will be hotels and resorts throughout it but I don't see that happening in my lifetime. I hope we do find a cheaper way to get to space because honestly who doesn’t want to go stay in space for a night?

This new space travel could lead to new opportunities for our world in the future. Once the excitiement of travel dies down, people could start to move into space. This could stop the potential overpopulation for our planet. There could also be new discoveries about space that we never could have known otherwise. Although these trips will be expensive, they could be very beneficial.

I believe that space vacations would be really fun, but very expensive. I would never do it, but others would love to go into the earths atmosphere and see it all! I think it's cool because only astronauts were aload to go, but now, they created away for petestrians to visit space for vacation! This is a once in a lifetime thing that they are allowing us to see for our own eyes and not photographs. Although as amazing as it sounds, the cost doesn't make this possible for everyone. 900,000 thousand to 2 million dollars is alot and only for the rich. If only!

I think that space vacations are crazy and don't make any sense. They cost a lot of money and its not like you can go to mars or the moon or SOMETHING. Its just space. If the rocket somehow opens up there is nothing but a freezing cold vacuum that will turn you into a ice cube almost instantly. Doesn't sound fun to me. 9/20/2012 10:10:58 am
This sounds like a waste of money to me. I could come up with so many vacations that cost less and would be much more appealing to me. Wouldn't you want to see the Grand Canyon, or ski in the Rockies, or travel through Paris? All these things would be much less and you could have so much more fun. How much is there to do in space? Not much in my opinion!

This is such a cool idea but very expensive. It must be a short trip because you can't leave regular citizens in outer space too long. I personally would love to go into outer space but the cost is so much that most middle-class people would not afford to go on. I would think that after a while, being in space must get old. What would you do all day other than jumping around in outer space? After some time, you are going to want to get back to earth. I think that the trip is probably only a few days but think about it. Your in OUTER SPACE!!!

Space travel? AWESOME. Let me just pull $2 million out of my pocket and buy a ticket. I can see how rich people would go up in space and maybe throw a sweet 16 party for their daughter but really? Why would someone (regular class person) spend $2 million to spend a half-hour in space? When I get rich (which will be never), that will be my first priority.

Am I the only one that thinks this is extremely lame. I mean what are you supposed to for a week on the moon? Jump around for a few minutes then you will get bored of the low gravity and probably want to go back home. With 95,000, dollars you could buy a new house or a really nice car. Why would someone want to waste that on bouncing around on the moon?

I think that this is amazing. Being able to go into space as a regular citizen is incredible. It's crazy that this will seem like a normal thing in everyday day life. I want to go to space!!! This is so cool if I had 2 million dollars in my pocket I would totally go. I know it is a lot of money but it would be worth it. Not a lot of people can say they went into space for a week and saw the dark side of the moon. Sounds pretty cool to me! However, I would be kind of scared because there hasn't been that many space vacations so it could be very dangerous. Comments are closed.
