Last week one of his water-color paintings was put up for auction (see below). The painting is of the Old City Hall of Munich. Thought to have been painted in 1914, it sold at auction last week for $162,000. Hitler's art surfaces ever now and again and it's believed that over 2,000 original works exist.
It's well known that before Adolf Hitler brought National Socialism to Germany he was a hopeful art student with debatable talent. Twice rejected from the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts, it is one of History's greatest "What If's" concerning how different the 20th century would have been had Hitler been an artists instead beginning a political career.

Well, I bet we all wish that Hitler became an artist and I can also say with confidence that the people who rejected him would probably feel really bad about this. Hitler's art is actually really good and using his talent in this way would have been so much better than wiping out a whole population of human beings. As for his paintings being sold, I don't know who would want to buy the artwork of the man who was responsible for killing so many innocent people. Yes, his artwork is very good, but I would not want that in my house. He is famous for all of the wrong reasons. It is actually pretty sad that people would want to buy anything of his at all. I know I would not be impressed if someone said, "and this one was painted by Adolf Hitler, you know, the leader of the Nazis." I would probably walk out.

What if Hitler did become an artist? Another world power would have dragged other into war. I am glad that there is no other man like Hitler; meaning I'm happy that another monster such as Hitler hasn't come anytime. About the artwork, people do care for the history; if there's a story behind the art it would sell a large amount of capital.

i believe that if Hitler had become an artist then there wouldnt have been the holicost. If Hitler had become an artist all of those people would have nevered died. In 1945, Soviet troops entered the concentration camps they discovered piles of corpses, bones, and human ashes because of the Nazi mass murder. They also found survivors both Jews and non Jew suffering from starvation and disease.

It's really weird to try and think about Hitler as anything other than what we know him as from history. In a way, he almost doesn't seem real to those of us who weren't alive in that time; it's difficult to imagine him not being the crazy man who killed massive numbers of people just because they didn't fit the image he liked. To consider him having a life before he rose to power during WWII, hobbies, normal interests, is very strange. Just try to picture Adolph Hitler sitting quietly and painting watercolor landscapes. It makes for an interesting picture. The fact that if an art school had accepted him and he had become an artist instead of going into politics and killing people, so much pain and suffering for innocent people would have been avoided, is insane.

If Hitler had become an artist instead of a political leader, history would most definitely be different. Sadly, that is not the case. Hitler's painting is very detailed and shows a lot of talent that Hitler must have had to create it. However, I do not believe that the painting was worth the $162,000 someone spent on it. It does show skill but many other paintings that are more detailed and meaningful are not as expensive as this one. I think that it is insanity that someone would spend $162,000 on a painting simply because the artist was Hitler. Yes, he was a symbolic political leader of World War II and yes he was talented in art but I don't understand why someone would want a painting of his. He was a ruthless and unsympathetic leader who caused the deaths of millions of people. I don't comprehend why someone would spend that much money to have a painting of such a horrible dictator.

It's really too bad Hitler chose the path in life he did. He had true talent as an artist, definitely not as a political leader. But, just because his paintings are really good, doesn't mean someone should pay that much to buy it. It's like people are "avoiding" or "forgetting" what he had done because his artwork is that good. I personally wouldn't want Hitlers artwork hanging up in my home or getting it as a gift. It is pretty cool historically, but shouldn't be rewarded. I just wouldnt be able to think of Hitler as doing anything good. It's sad he had gotten rejected for his art, but he took the completely wrong path after that.

It really is a shame that Hitler had such amazing talents that could've made him seen as a good man, but unfortunately that was not the case. This painting is so beautiful and it is so unfortunate that Hitler became the person he did. I can't believe someone would pay $162,000 on this painting. I wouldn't want that to be in my house. Its such a shame that a man who had such amazing talents chose to kill hundreds of thousands of innocent people. If he had chosen to continue to pursue painting, just imagine how many lives wouldn't have been cost at the hands of Hitler.

I've been a big fan of Hitler's paintings (just the paintings) for a while. I consider his architectural series some of the best from his time. He also has some very emotional pieces of destroyed towns during world war 1 and 2. Personally if I had the money to spend I would probably buy one of his paintings, focusing only on the artistic merit rather than the rest of Hitlers life. I think that Hitlers views were terrible, but what most people do not realize is that he was actually a skilled leader and politician as well as a talented and intelligent person.

Had Hitler made it as an artist instead of going into politics, the twentieth century probably would've been a more peaceful time. For example, the Nazi party wouldn't have been formed and millions of people wouldn't have had to lose their lives over his vision for a perfect Aryan race. It could therefore also have affected the breaking out of World War II, and later on the cold war between America and Russia (the Cold War began because of the Americans building atomic bombs to use against one of Germany's allies, Japan, during WWII). In fact, if Hitler had stayed in the field of the arts, he most likely would've been either a successful German artist or eventually ended up sinking into the backgrounds of history.

I don't get how someone can go from a hardworking, hopeful artist to a monster. Whenever people think of the name Adolf Hitler people think of a psychopath who killed millions and millions of innocent people. In my opinion if Hitler was not known for being what he is, I don't think this painting would go for half of what it went for. Also, the fact that someone would buy his artwork after all of the terrible things he has done is sick, I don't understand why anyone would want anything of his.

I knew that Hitler was a failed artist but I'd never seen his artwork before and I didn't know how good it was. I find it sad that instead of pursuing a peaceful career in art that utilized his talents Hitler went on to become one of the most violent and hated men in history. He obviously had a lot of issues though that is no excuse for what he did. That being said I would never want anything that came near him in my house. I don't care how good his art was its ruined for me because of who created it. I think that Hitler's art is of historical significance and I believe that it belongs only in a museum, not in the house of a private collector who has a sick obsession with Nazi war memorabilia.

if Hitler had chosen to be a peaceful artist there would have been no such thing as the Holocaust. He could have been known as a famous artist rather than the psycho he turned out to be. It just comes to show that not everyone makes the best decisions in life

I don't know how to say this in a good way. But what hitler had done to us was a tradegy. We wouldn't have become the world we are today in a sense. It was very sad what had happened. But, it made us the people who we are today. We can't always think what if this happened or what would have happened if something was just a bit different. That life is in the past and we are in the future. We can't continue to live in the past. We just have to continue living in the present and hope for the future. It would've been great if he was an artist, but he wasn't and there's nothing else to be discussed.

I believe that if Hitler hadn't been rejected that there would not have been the holocaust and all those Jews wouldn't have suffered for no reason. i don't blame that art school i blame Hitler for completely going out of control and murdering a bunch of innocent people.
