Making such threats, whether it be in person, written on paper, or posted online constitutes a crime. If convicted the former students could face up to 3 years in prison as well as a $10,000 fine.
And before anyone begins to cry out "freedom of speech", read over the constitution first and see what that really means... you never have the freedom to threaten the life of another person...
