Thus Mrs. Ibrahim has committed two crimes; the first being that she was a Muslim woman who married a Christian man, a crime for which she was sentenced to 100 lashes. This sentence will be carried out once she has recovered from childbirth... she gave birth to a daughter only a few days ago. For the crime of Apostasy she is scheduled to be executed by hanging which will be carried out in two years. The court has allowed her two years to breast feed her daughter.
The ruling of the court, aside from being contrary to basic human rights, is also contrary to Islamic law as the Quran clearly forbids forced religious conversion. The hope of Mrs. Ibrahim and her family is that in the next two years, international pressure will force the Sudanese government to release her from custody. Only time will tell.
