According to the United Nations there were over 330,000 babies born worldwide in 2011 infected with the H.I.V. virus… and over three million children globally are currently living with the virus. The baby is only the second known person to be cured of the H.I.V. virus. The first was man from Berlin named Timothy Brown who received a bone-marrow transplant from a donor who was genetically resistant to the H.IV. virus.
The next step for doctors is to attempt to replicate these results, something that has proven to be difficult.
Only a few years ago it was thought to be virtually impossible to cure H.I.V., and now it appears that medical science may be on the verge of saving millions of lives.
