This phenomenon of the complaining, unproductive senior is the result of severe and perennial affliction called “senioritis.” Is there a cure? Some think yes. There is a small, but vocal movement around the country which advocates giving senior students more freedom to design their own senior year curriculum. For some this would mean leaving high school after only three years if they prove themselves ready for college, and for others it would be a curriculum specifically designed to meet the individual interests and goals of each student.
Educators are always trying to find better ways to engage students without taking the most logical step to actually do that… ask the students.
