The courts in Virginia will likely treat Dillow harshly as this incident occurred a few days after the five year anniversary of the Virginia Tech shootings in which 32 people were shot by a student...
A Virginia teacher named Manuael Ernest Dillow has been charged with 12 counts of felony assault after he forced his students to line up against his classroom wall and pulled a gun on them. The gun, which fired blanks, looked and sounded like a real gun, and the assault charges step from inciting fear into his students.
According to reports, he pulled the gun from the back waistband of his pants and fired approximately ten shots in the direction of the students. The 12 assault counts are class 6 felonies and if convicted he could face up to five years in prison for each count. The courts in Virginia will likely treat Dillow harshly as this incident occurred a few days after the five year anniversary of the Virginia Tech shootings in which 32 people were shot by a student...

Thats probaby the stupidest idea I've heard in a while. I don't think he should get 40 years in prison for that because at least he didn't actually shoot the students. Still though I don't know why a teacher would do that. I wonder what he was trying to teach them by pulling a gun on them.

Undoubtedly, this teacher deserves every terrible thing that is coming to him. There is no justification for his reasonless actions. We all have bad days, and I hope I am right when I say that most of us do not consider having people line up execution style while holding a gun that fires blanks to their heads as an option for relief. I do not what I would do if I was placed in that cruel position, fearing that a teacher would end my life. Simply stated, I could never imagine knowing that there is a definite possibility that I would die right then and there. No one is ever ready to go, and due to that fact, these children will suffer an unfortunate amount of mental and emotional scarring. It is safe to say that this man needs to be mentally evaluated for his actions.

This is absolutely horrible! I can't believe this teacher actually thought what he did was ok. This teacher deserves everything he is going to get, and I hope he gets into a lot of trouble. What was the reasoning behind this? It just doesn't make sense to me. Thank god all the kids are ok.

This is outrageous! Why would he do something like that? It was not funny and was an completely inappropriate thing for him to do. The students could probably be scarred for life and grow a fear of their teachers...I think that this guy really is twisted for not thinking of just how scary his prank/joke/whatever could be to his students. What makes this worse is that he was a teacher--someone that you would expect to know better! And while I do feel that he deserves whatever comes to him, I kind of feel bad for him. I seriously pity him because he may think back years from now and see just how wrong his actions were. He would feel guilty, with no doubt--at least, that's what I would expect him to feel. I hope that he reflects upon his actions and that the students will recover from such a scary event.

Considering what happened years ago at Virginia Tech., this man deserves any punishment coming to him. An event like that would no doubt be a traumatic experience for all of his students. There was no reason why he needed to bring in a fake gun, no matter what point he was trying to prove or what lesson needed to be learned. Scaring his students and the community was not the way to go about teaching, if that's what his intentions were.

Any teacher, anyone at that who pulls a gun out on students is not playing with a full deck. No matter what his intentions were, he deserves the consquences. I would be terrified if one of my teachers/student teachers was to pull out a gun on me, real or fake, its horrifying

What was this teacher thinking of when he decided this was how he was going to disaplant his students. There is deffently something wrong with this man to have him bring a gun to his class and shot blanks out of it to scare his class. This man should have never been a teacher becuase clearly he is not fit too

That is really scary. I don’t see how there was a purpose here. I guarantee that if I were in that classroom, I’d be crying. That would be terrifying! Those poor kids are probably going to be terrified for a long time. What makes it worse is that it occurred around the five year anniversary of Virginia Tech. I seriously wonder what made him decide that it would be a good idea to take out a gun that looked and sounded real and point it at kids.

This teacher deserves the full punishment. You can't just pull out a gun and not think you won't get into trouble. There is definitely something wrong with this guy, and the fact that it happened close to the anniversary of the Virginia Tech Shooting makes it even worse for the people in that community.

This blog is crazy. I would be scared to death if i were those kids. Although it is extemely scary, I do not know if he schould have an extensive amount of prision time. I agree that he should have time, but not over 10 years. Maybe this was a lesson plan that this teacher was doing, although if my teacehr did that to me, i would report them. I am torn of this blog.

In class we were all like joking about it, but I think we all realize how serious it actually is. I mean I cant imagine this happening, and I know if it did I would be terribly tramatized. This just proves there are some messed up people in this world, I really hope he gets punished to the fullest extent.

This is actually really scary. Sure it's funny but imagine being held at gunpoint...I would be terrified! Even if this was meant as a joke or As a punshiment, it wasn't funny or teaching anyone anything. He deserves to be punished, I dont know how much but deffinately some sort of punishment.

Some people might think this punishment is too harsh, but I don't think so. Sure, he didn't actually shoot the kids, but what he did was still sick, cruel, and sadistic. Who knows if that sadism could grow and maybe one day he really will shoot someone? Also, he must have traumatized these poor kids. They're going to be scarred for the rest of their lives and there's nothing he can do to change the fact that he caused that. I think he deserves every year of jail that they're charging him for.

I don't think that this is right. The students being wild or rude does not mean that they have a right to pull a gun on the students. If any of the teachers at Pilgrem were to pull a gun on the students, I would think that they would be fiered almost imediatly.

What was that teacher trying to teach his kids? I mean this is a bit hardcore for a lesson and firing a gun at his students no less. What happened to lead up to this point is beyond me. It was really crazy of him to do that, someone should have checked on him and gave him some help. Whatever is wrong with him will surely be dealt with during the progress of his prison days.

I was in complete shock when I first heard about this on the news. I only heard a short part of it, but it was still so unbelievable to me. When I heard about it more in depth in class, it was even more astonishing. I didn't understand what a class could do sooo wrong to make a teacher snap like that. Obviously he was EXTREMELY mad over something they did! If he did that just for the 'fun' of it, he has severe issues... The fact that he chose to pull a stunt like this so close to the anniversary of Virginia Tech is even more disturbing. I really hope this man serves the five years and loses his job over this.

I don't understand people. I hope more about this is released because although it's dumb I find it quite interesting to hear students' personal stories of this. This guy deff needs some punishment for his punishment!

This is taking things wayyy to far. Does he not realize how scared those kids must have been? He didn't even stop to think on how his actions would affect the kids. He deserves the 12 felonies & the jail time. That will stick with the kids forever, & they will be haunted by it. He had no right to do that. It was an extremely inappropriate action to do esspecially because it was done by a teacher. He's supposed to be setting a good example to younger people.

What an idiot this guy was. I’m pretty sure he should realize that pulling a gun on students is a bad thing fake or not. And he should know that doing this a few days before the Virginia Tech shootings would make it even worst. That is a pretty sensitive subject for lots of people. Also, he fire ten shots, did anyone hear the first few, I mean come on it sounded like a real gun. I don't think that Dillow deserves twelve counts of felony assault, but I do think he deserves some. Also, I don't think he'll be going to that school any time soon in the future.

I think that this man is... lets see, crazy? I'm not sure if that is even the right way to describe him. I mean, even though the gun was not real, or loaded, it still is a public offense. I can only imagine the thoughts in the students minds when he pulled out the guns. Even the thought of it being right before the Virginia Tech shootings, I think that is just a little sketchy.

This is quite strange to say the least. I do not really see the point in this "class activity". It clearly did not give anything to the kids and nothing to the teacher either raided jail time. Those kids in the class were probably so scared especially because of the recent school shootings. I hope this teacher will learn his lesson if he hasn't already.

This is no way justified, there is no reasonable explanation for doing something crazy like this. These students are young students, and because this "gun" looked so real, this incident could potentially affect them for the rest of their lives. These poor students could be going through psychological problems for quite some time. Because of all the terrible things that have happened in relation to guns in schools, it is not a topic to kid about, and this man should have known better.
