Yesterday, Iowa Representative Steve King (R), in an interview with the New York Times equated the terms "white nationalist," "white supremacist," and "Western Civilization."
In the interview, King asks the question how and when terms like "white supremacist" became offensive? He further questions the idea of being forced to sit through Western Civilization classes which essentially teach the history of white Europe's dominance over the globe, if it was offensive to believe in that dominance. King further argues that because he sees the United States as the fulfillment of Western Europe's great potential, there is nothing wrong with expressing joy in that supremacy... white supremacy.
Hours after the interview was published online, King provided a statement in which he declared
"I want to make one thing abundantly clear; I reject those labels and the evil ideology that they define... Under any far political definition, I am simply a Nationalist."
