In an effort to reach across the political aisle he did acknowledge the need to improved infrastructure and offered some celebratory remarks about the number of women who were elected to Congress in November - the largest amount of women in history.
The President received very little support from either party when referencing the various investigations against him and his campaign stating, "If there is going to be peace and legislation, there cannot be war and investigation. It just doesn't work that way." Following this remark, very few people, even amongst the Republicans offered applause.
This particular State of the Union is noteworthy for another reason - the fact that it was delayed due to the government shutdown. Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi refused to invite the President to deliver the State of the Union until the shutdown was over. This of course is within her powers as the President must be invited to deliver any joint message to Congress.
